PALAS LAKE
Palas Lake in Kayseri is not exempt from the problems the wetlands are threatened with. The majority of the people that live in the Palas Lake region think that the lake is of no benefit to them and that it would be wiser in economic terms to drain and reclaim the area as agricultural land. But there are also people like Ali Asker Beyazit who do not believe in this. His conclusive remark into the issue of draining the lake is, "If there is water in this lake, there is water in Turkey; if there is no water in this lake, there is famine in Turkey".
