WIDE IS THE SEA
The film is dedicated to the tragedy of creation of Rybinsk water reservoir in USSR in 1938, the biggest man-made sea on the Earth, the symbol of man's victory over nature. The epoch of grandiose tasks, great changes and enthusiasm however turns into tragedy and disaster for millions of people.
150 000 prisoners of GULAG built one of the most ambitious Stalin's projects. 800 villages, 3 towns, 5 monasteries, hundreds of old cemeteries were submerged. Thousands of people lost their home...

He graduated from the Polytechnic University in Tula and the All-Union State University of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow as a film director. He worked at central studios in St. Petersburg and made many documentaries for central Russian TV channels. He has awards of some international festivals, among them – New-York, Toronto, Venice, Barcelona, and an international award of FIPRESCI. Since 2001 he has been teaches directing as a professor of the Saint-Petersburg University for Cinema and Television.
